Dallas, Texas, June 3,
2006 -- Las Colinas Polo Club – The Dallas Polo Season continues in
June with
USPA Intra-Circuit 12 Goal Tournament, June 2 – 11;
followed by ESPN’s Triple Crown of Polo, June 16-25. Henry S Miller
and CMC have started out undefeated again in the 1st games of USPA
Intra-Circuit with wins over Mokarow Farms and Intergame. Both games
were close however and it will prove to be a very competitive
tournament.
On Friday, June 2, Henry S. Miller defeated Intergame 9-8 in a
choppy defensive game. The Intergame team was recently reorganized
with the addition of 1-goal Patron Alex Gleeson in place of his
sister, Sophie. Additionally, Intergame’s number 3 player, Jorge
Rodriguez, was lowered from 5 to 4 goals in the USPA June handicap
ratings. Re-energized, Intergame played its best game of the season,
leading HSM in the 5th chukker when Intergame’s Oscar Bermudez tied
the game with a fantastic run. It was not enough, however, as HSM’s
Brent Mirkitani controlled the center in the 6th chukker and passed
to Pelon Escapite who dribbled in while burning the clock to end the
game.
Also on Friday, CMC played Mokarow Farms on Mokarow’s newly improved
field in Oak Point. Patron Kevin Mokarow, who most recently reached
the semifinals of the 2006 US Open at International Polo Club Palm
Beach, has built two world class polo fields at his farm north of
Dallas in Oak Point, which is quickly becoming the new center of
polo in North Texas. The game was close until the 5th and 6th
chukkers and when CMC’s Rob Payne scored 3 goals on passes from 6
goaler Fransisco Bilbao. CMC won the match 12-9.
Then two hard fought
matches were played on Sunday, June 4. In the first game Henry S.
Miller defeated Mokarow Farms 11-8. The game was close until the 5th
and 6th chukkers when Brent Mirikitani scored on a fabulous neck
shot to put the game out of reach for Mokarow. In the second game
CMC defeated Intergame 11-8. Intergame gave away several fouls in
the 1st two chukkers and fought hard to get back within 1 goal in
the 4th, but CMC's Rob Payne scored two strong goals in the 5th on
passes from Fransisco Bilbao to secure the victory. This means that
CMC will play Henry S. Miller, once again in the finals on Sunday,
June 11.
Up next is ESPN’s
Triple Crown of Polo 14 Goal Tournament to be
televised nationally and internationally on ESPN2 July 15 from 1-2
PM EDT. The Triple Crown of Polo creatively blends sports with
entertainment through an innovative television program combining
world-class polo competitions with profiles of the lifestyles of the
owners, players and horses. Venues are the Sarasota Polo Club in
Florida in April, then Las Colinas in Dallas in June, followed by
Santa Barbara Polo and Racquet Club in California in August. The
Dallas leg should prove to be the most exciting with several events
planned for the finals weekend, including a party at Tiffanys where
the spectacular trophy will be viewed; followed by the TCP
