MARCH 10, 2011 -- OAK POINT, TEXAS-- Founder and
president of the Ladies Polo Auxiliary of Texas,
Dena Miller, has been appointed to the USPA’s Equine
Welfare Committee. Dena was recommended to the
committee by Gwen Rizzo, Publisher of Polo Players
Edition Magazine, wife of Peter Rizzo, executive
director of the USPA and Equine Welfare Committee
representative. According to Gwen,” we need people
who aren't afraid to search for facts and can
actually help situations.” Dena was invited to
the committee by Clint Nangle, founding chair of the
committee and board member for 18 years. The
Committee’s mission is to foster the development of
standards for polo pony care and treatment – many of
which, while in common use, have never been
standardized before. "Dena's love of animals
and polo make her a natural for the Equine
Committee," according to Prestonwood Polo Club
President, Vaughn Miller, "her creativity and
ability to organize and follow-thru will be a great
addition" said Vaughn. "I'm honored to be asked to
to be on such an important committee," said Dena,
"I'm looking forward to working hard for the
protection of horses, one of our planet's most loved
creatures!"
Dena will attend the annual USPA committee meetings
in April in Palm Beach, Florida in conjunction with
the finals of the US Open. As founder of the
Ladies Polo Auxiliary of Texas,
Dena has worked tirelessly to raise money for
charities through polo and bringing in hundreds of
new fans to the sport of polo in North Texas.
