NEWS RELEASE -- MAY 5,
2007 -- DALLAS, TEXAS, Las Colinas Polo Club – The 6th Annual Polo
on The Lawn charity match for the USPA sanctioned Henry S. Miller
Cup opened the Dallas polo season at Las Colinas Polo Club Saturday,
April 28. Over $70,000 was raised for The Family Place, a charity
established in 1986 to help victims of domestic violence in north
Texas. According to Dena Miller and Janie Condon, Co-chairs of the
event, a record crowd people attended this year’s event “the event
was wonderful, with great weather and beautiful people we had the
perfect backdrop to watch an exciting polo match and raise much
needed funds for The Family Place.”
The 12 goal polo match was the third year battle between Henry S
Miller and Intergame in the U.S.P.A. Sanctioned Henry S Miller Cup.
It looked like this might be Intergame's year to take the silver
home as they were up 3-0 in the first chukker. Led by Todd Offen
(5), Billuy Mudra (4), John Waggoner (1) and patron Sophie Gleeson
(0). However the Henry S. Miller team of Pelon Escapite (5), Brent
Mirikitani (4), Rob Paynee III (1) and patron Vaughn Miller (1)
answered with 2 goals ending the chukker at 3-2 In the second
chukker the score was 4-4 and they ended the half tied 5 all. It
proved to be another exciting hard fought game with HSM fighting to
take the lead in the 4th chukker 5-6 and winning the game 10-12,
taking home the trophy for the third year in a row. The match was
filmed and broadcast live on the internet by Bear Wire Video, which
films and produces the local sports games for Highland Park High
School in Dallas. DVD’s of the match are available on-line at
www.BearWireVideo.com
Guests enjoyed the
sounds of Chap Bernet, Highland Park High School sudent, who
has music in his genes, playing as they arrived. His grandfather Ed Bernet played in the "Big Band" days and was quite proud as he took
a break from the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament to watch him perform.
Prizes were awarded for "Best" contests by honorary chair Brandon
Higgins from NBC channel 5. Live auction items included a beautiful
white mare polopony, going to Gregory Ross, and beautiful polo
painting painted live during the event by famous artist Rolanco
Diaz, which sold to Kevin Mokarrow. Prints of the gorgeous painting
